BEneFIT! is about being fit and raising support that will help the OI Foundation to provide answers to families and fund research into treatments and a cure for OI.
If you want to raise support for the OI Foundation through a marathon, swim-a-thon, bike-a-thon, or other similar activity, the BEneFIT! web pages are an easy way to get started.
The tools there will help you "spread the word" and generate support and encouragement for your efforts through e-mails to friends, family and coworkers.
Another way to participate is to set a goal that will improve your personal physical fitness. This could be beginning an exercise program or completing physical therapy after a fracture or surgery. Then, as you work towards that goal, set up your web page to keep friends and loved ones informed of your progress and encourage them to make a contribution in support.
Over the years, it has become clear that physical activity is an important part of managaing OI in children and adults. Physical activity improves overall general health, improves bone density, promotes optimal physical function, and promotes optimal psychological and social well-being by improving self confidence and the ability to interact socially with peers.
As you get started with BEneFIT!, you may want to review the OI Foundation's related resources, Children with OI: Strategies to Increase Performance and the fact sheet Exercise & Fitness.
Don't wait! Use BEneFIT! to get fit and help the OI community at the same time!
