Please join us in expediting research... one donor at a time.

Mallie has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (aka Brittle Bone Disease). In her short life, she has suffered over two dozen fractures, including a life threatening skull fracture. Though the ultimate long-term goal is a cure, we need to help her now. We can not afford to wait 5 yrs, 10 yrs or even longer for groundbreaking research to emerge that could benefit Mallie today. There is an extreme sense of urgency for more research as Mallie, only five years old, is in her prime growth years. The creation of the Mallie's Friends Research Legacy will speed the course of research in the OI community. MALLIE'S FRIENDS are people who embrace her struggle through their generous, tax-deductible financial donations.

The challenge...

In late 2006, Mallie's parents were able to secure a tremendously generous gift from a private donor. Their $110,000 gift to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation has established a two year Research Fellowship that will bring us one giant step closer to a cure for Mallie. Since Mallie's father was a newly elected member of the Board of Directors for the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, this gift was eligible for the "Board Challenge." This means that a $55,000 match was applied and will fund a third year of the Research Fellowship. This private donor personally challenged Mallie's father to raise an additional $110,000 over the next three years in order to fund a fourth and fifth year of the Research Fellowship. To put this challenge in perspective, Mallie's Friends have donated $65,000 over the past three years ending 12/31/06. Over the next three years, Mallie's Friends will have to generate a 70% increase in donations to meet the challenge. The private donor has planted the seed to establish new research. With the help of Mallie's Friends, we can sustain that research through the Mallie's Friends Research Legacy.

Investing in Mallie's future...

We remain extremely grateful for Mallie's Friends generosity and support. As you can see from the $110,000 challenge, we need your support more than ever. The heightened sense of urgency creates the need for your increased financial commitment over the next three years in order to meet our goal. Please give special consideration to making or increasing your contribution over the next three years. Your contribution is an investment that will speed the course of research. Your dividend is the technological advancements and medical breakthroughs that will improve Mallie's life. Please join us and Mallie's Friends to make the dreams of tomorrow a reality for Mallie today.

Sincerely,

Greg & Leigh

Imagine . . .

Your child is born with osteogenesis imperfecta. Like other parents hearing this news, you struggle to handle a child in constant pain. Compared to healthy bone, the bones of a child or adult with OI are like chalk. Rolling over in bed or putting on a T-shirt can cause a fracture.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder characterized by bones that break easily, often from little or no apparent cause. The severity of OI varies greatly from person to person, as does its impact on an individual's life.

The OI Foundation provides support, resources and information for people with OI and their families, and it funds research into treatments and a cure.
