Dear Friends and Family,
It is National OI Week and now time for another Swimathon to support OI! Thank you so much to those of you who have already supported me and donated to my campaign! I am 2/3rds of the way there! I am very excited to announce that on Saturday, May 20th, McKenzie Coan a paralympic swimmer, will be joining me for this inspiring event. Mckenzie Coan is a three-time gold medalist and a silver medalist in the 50,100, and 400 free and in the 4x100m freestyle relay. Mckenzie, like me, was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and she has broken over 30 bones in her life. She will be joining my swim team and me to swim as many laps as we can and to raise money and awareness for Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
As some of you might remember, three years ago I did a Swimathon with my friend, Isabel Gormley, at Asphalt Green to raise money for the OI foundation. We were very grateful to raise over $100,000 for research to find a cure for OI. After the Swimathon, the OI foundation started a campaign called 50,000 Laps-One Unbreakable Spirit where, each May, the OI Foundation tries to raise money by having people swim 50,000 laps. These 50,000 laps represent the 50,000 people who have OI in the United States. In this campaign, many people from all over the country of all ages sign up, solicit sponsors and swim as many laps as they can. The OI Foundation calculates the money donated from the laps swam at the end of the week.
The money that we raise will go to help the OI Foundation focus on their goals which are research, education, awareness, and improving the quality of life for those with Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
In honor of my recent Bat Mitzvah, I wanted to have another Swimathon to support the OI Foundation and give back to those less fortunate in the OI community. The OI Foundation is very excited to share that accomplished swimmers such as Ryan Murphy are swimming in the 50,000 Laps-One Unbreakable Spirit campaign this month.
Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions.
Thank you again for all of your support.
