My name is Annemarie – I am 5 years old, and I was born with Type 3 Osteogenesis Imperfecta. That is one of the most severe types you can have.
I have had over 15 broken bones since I was born – I even had many fractures before I was born!
The bones that I break the most often are the long bones in my legs – when those are broken, I use a wheelchair. Otherwise, I walk (or run even when I am not supposed to!) with the help of my golden walker.
While Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI for short) is not curable, there are special treatments that can help me and my friends that are also born with OI to recover faster, be stronger and have the best lives we can.
My friends and I are super excited that there is now a Canadian Chapter of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (the OIF). This means that families like mine that are affected by OI can get help when needed and research can be done right here using the generous donations from wonderful people like you.
We are all very excited about this, and hope that you will join us by donating to help get the Canadian Chapter off to a great start!
Your donation, when you make it, will show in US dollars, but you will be issued a Canadian Charitable Donation tax receipt from COIS. And please know that your donations, however big or small, will truly help improve the lives of those like me who were born with OI.
To help support the important work done by the OIF, please click on the “Donate Now” link found conveniently right here on this page.
Thank you for joining me in raising funds and awareness for OI and the OIF!
